At Startups.be, we aim to raise the profile of the home-grown talent and unite the Belgian entrepreneurial ecosystem. Thus, this year for the first time, we decided to praise the top BeTech startups by organizing the first edition of Tech Startup Day Awards... and it was a success!
On February 18th, during the closing plenary of Tech Startup Day, we announced the winners of this very first edition.
In the category "Startup Student of the Year", the winner chosen by public vote was CR3DO, a young and dynamic company specialised in professional 3D printing solutions for prototyping, functional and end-use parts.
Cr3do took the prize home and we are glad to see that is now proudly displayed at their office at Corda Incubator, in Limburg.
The winner of the "Disruptive Innovation of the Year" award was FoodPairing, a science-based platform for personal food suggestions for an exciting, healthy and sustainable life.
Foodpairing triumphed with 31% of the vote and we are happy to say that they are on a roll! They recently were awarded the "Disruption" prize during the UK Digital Forum powered by UK Trade & Investment.
Johan Langenbick - Foodpairing - hits the stage to get his prize.
Teamleader was the winner of the category "Startup of the Year". This Belgian startup provides an online application to manage your contacts, opportunities, invoices and projects in order to help you improve your company's productivity.
Ghent-headquartered, Teamleader had an astounding 2015 packed with great achievements: after winning The Next Web Boost competition, they secured €2.5M in funding and expanded to Berlin. We are looking forward to seeing what 2016 will be like for this promising company!
Finally, "Scale Up of the Year", was for Take Eat Easy, the Belgian company that is reinventing take away. Brussels’ startup, which raised 16 million euros in 2015, won by a large victory. « We are very grateful to be backed by such an enthusiasm from the voters, it is quite heart-warming to see that people actually like this adventure of ours», says Adrien Roose, CEO and co-founder Take Eat Easy.
« Last year, we opened more than 6 cities in 3 different countries. In 2016 in Belgium alone, we plan on opening Antwerp, Gent and Liège », explains A.Roose. « It will be a fantastic challenge to focus on growing in our home country ». Internationally, since January Nantes and Toulouse have already been launched for the French market.

Thanks to over 3600 total votes for each category and with the support from our partners Datanews, UKTI, EY, Pulse Foundation and SurveyAnyplace, the awarded companies got prizes to foster their growth and internationalisation.
So what's next for the winners?
In addition, they all won coaching by a jury member. UK Trade and Investment prize for Teamleader and Take Eat Easy was a UK pack to further develop their expansion strategy.
