The Belgian data governance specialist Collibra just announced a $50M Series C funding round. Iconiq Capital, the private Silicon Valley venture capital firm of Mark Zuckerberg, Reid Hoffman and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, is leading the round. Other vc's that participate are Battery Ventures and the existing investors Index Ventures, Dawn Capital and Newion Investments.

This latest investment will help Collibra continue to fuel its rapid growth and industry leadership as a premier provider of data governance solutions. The Brussels- and New York-based company started out at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and has gone on to witness prolific growth since it was founded in 2008. To date, Collibra has secured more than $75 million in venture funding. Collibra also benefited from support from the university BI3 Fund and the Finance.Brussels group SRIB/GIMB, which supports businesses expanding in the region.

The Collibra integrated data governance platform helps around 200 organizations across the globe in industries including financial services, retail, healthcare, education, technology, government and others find, understand, and trust the data they need to be truly data-driven enterprises and to gain competitive advantage. Collibra was also named the 'Best Data Governance Solution' in the 2016 Data Management Review awards.

What's next?

This latest investment of $50M will help Collibra continue to fuel its rapid growth and industry leadership as a premier provider of data governance solutions. With this investment, Matt Jacobson, General Partner with Iconiq, will join the Collibra board of directors; Battery General Partner Dharmesh Thakker will join the board as an observer.

"Data's day has come. And with that, organizations have recognized that data can only be leveraged as a strategic resource to the extent it can be accessed and, most important, trusted," says Felix Van de Maele, CEO and co-founder of Collibra. “This Series C funding round from two of the industry’s most highly respected and successful investment firms is tremendous validation of our business and our exponential growth since our founding in Belgium."

"Our expansion is testament to industry insight and driven by the increased adoption of data governance as a corporate discipline. Collibra is the industry’s most advanced purpose-built data governance platform and our intent is to continue capturing mind and market share in our field. I’m also pleased to welcome Matt Jacobson to the Collibra board, where his experience and insights working with some of the world’s premier high-growth companies will be invaluable to our continued expansion.”
