As you probably know by now, Belgium prepares for an ambitious international techfest, SuperNova in Antwerp. FlandersDC, Scale-ups.eu and the Flemisch Government joined forces for the project, but Startups.be is a partner as well. We organize our Failing Forward Conference during the event, and have two fantastic FF-speakers lined up on Friday September 28.

"The Netherlands and Finland are just two examples of European countries that organize big international tech conferences," explains Jurgens Ingels of Scale-Ups.eu to Bloovi. "I believe that a big tech event is needed to create an ecosystem of second generation entrepreneurs.”

“For example, there are still too few scale-ups in our country that are able to really make it on an international level, partly because they can not raise more than 100 million euro. Belgium has about 90 companies that have raised more than 1 million euro, and that's it.”

“That we blame this on the small scale of Belgium, is naïve. It’s all about time reduction, about helping our tech startups to scale faster. No better way to show what we have to offer than with a large-scale exhibition. And we don’t have to wait too long. If we want to be prepared for the world of tomorrow as a country, we need to take action today."

About the program

From Artificial Intelligence to 3D printing, SuperNova welcomes a solid line-up of thought leaders on stage with a broad range of expertise. What do you think about Ray Kurzweil, one of the world’s leading inventors, thinkers and futurists? Or Biz Stone, the co-founder of Twitter? Not to forget best selling author Seth Godin and many, many others.

Startups.be invited two fantastic speakers as well for it’s Failing Forward Conference, that is part of SuperNova on Friday, September 28. None other than the Dutch serial entrepreneur and party DJ Sebastiaan Hooft will tell the audience about his failures and his lessons learned, and and we’re also very happy that founder of Charlie Magazine Jozefien Daelemans will share her experiences with failure during one of the intimate ‘sofa sessions’ that take place at SuperNova.

The SuperNova Tech Fair aims to showcase more than 60 game-changing Belgian companies that are at the forefront of disrupting traditional industries - ranging from large industry leaders such as Barco (with its expertise in advanced visualization and sound solutions) and imec (world-class leader in nanoelectronics) to disruptive Belgian newcomers such as Team leader, Robovision, and Showpad.

What else can you expect?
