You want to become agile and start raising money? Then don't miss the fundraising workshops we are organizing together with Digital Wallonia and Creative Wallonia Engine throughout the Walloon region in the next few months!
It is estimated that there are up to 350 digital startups in Wallonia. Many initiatives are taken to support the existing companies, and to enhance the emergence of new ones.
In December 2015, the “Digital Strategy for Wallonia” was adopted by the Walloon government with a clear vision to make Wallonia a true digital hub. Over 500 million euros were allocated to be spent in a four-year period on actions for the region’s digital transformation.
Any transformation, besides a plan and all other factors, requires knowledge and commitment.
In 2017, Digital Wallonia collaborates with Startups.be to address one of the key aspects of startups’ growth, that is fundraising. For many, raising capital is a difficult task, and it needs a clear strategy.
Thibaut Claes, innovation manager at Startups.be, is convinced that "for the first stage(s) of funding, Walloon startups can be financed by governmental funds as Leansquare or WING, but when they are looking for more (€500+), they need to address business angels or Venture Capital. At that stage startups often experience a 'cultural' change, because what is expected from the startups turns to be much higher than what they initially were ready for."
All our workshops (that are free of charge for startups) embrace different elements of the fundraising process: startup valuation, slide deck components, shareholder agreement, a term sheet, and so on.
Moreover, during the workshops the startups will get the opportunity to get insights from experts in such fields as law (‘Beyond Law Firm’) and VC (‘Serena Capital’). The free investor readiness workshops in Wallonia are divided into two main groups of regions: Hainaut and Brabant-Liège-Namur-Lux.
